Kevin Wyre is a R&B and reggae musician from Kenya known from the groups Necessary Noize and East African Bashment Crew as well as a solo artist.


With a musical career spanning over twenty years, Wyre says he has no intentions of slowing down any time soon. An accomplished singer, songwriter and producer, Wyre has been nominated and won numerous award both at home in Kenya and within the African continent.

Wyre is marking his spot on the global scene by fusing Reggae & Dancehall with different genres of music, thus slowly crossing over to the international stages.

His collaborations with several local and international artists, release of quality videos and nonstop hits has gained him a fan base worldwide.

As a member of the group Necessary Noise, Wyre and his group released two very successful albums that forever raised the bar for other musical groups in Kenya. Necessary Noise was formed in the latter part of 2000 and went on to release several hits such as “Kenyan girl Kenyan Boy” and “Bless My Room” that dominated the Kenyan musical scene for several years and for which they also garnered several awards.

Necessary Noise later joined with Bebe Cool from Uganda to form the group “East African Bashment Crew” (EABC). EABC released one album together which had several hits such as “Fire” and “Combination”. The group also won several awards for their work. Wyre says he is greatly inspired by the musical work of Michael Jackson, Damian Marley, Ginuwine and Akon to name a few.

His collaboration with several artists on the few original and remixed versions has catapulted Wyre to great levels in the music industry. He has collaborated with such artists as JB Maina from Kenya, P Square from Nigeria, Cecile, Alaine, Gramps Morgan & Peetah Morgan from the Grammy Award Winning Reggae group Morgan Heritage,to mention but a few. Singles such as “Uprising”, “She Say Dat” (featuring Cecile), “Sina Makosa” and “Mwanake” (featuring JB Maina) &” Nakupenda Pia ” (featuring Alaine)are just a few of the hits that Wyre released as singles after releasing the album 10 Years Wiser. Wyre has also done production work for such artists as Redsan, Achieng Abura and Gidi Gidi Maji Maji amongst many others.

2013 saw Wyre visit Jamaica for the very first time where he performed, networked & worked with several artistes and producers on various projects. The video for the hit single “Nakupenda Pia” which featured multi-talented Jamaican songbird Alaine Laughton was shot at various locations in Jamaica and released in mid-2013.Wyre released several singles and videos including “Khadija Remix” featuring Kenyan artist JuaCali and “Kamua Leo Remix” that he featured on with several artistes. Wyre also performed at the International Reggae and World Music Awards held in the USA where he also won the award for “Best New Artiste”.

Wyre continues with his quest to penetrate the international market while increasing and maintaining his local fan base. He has performed for thousands of fans the world over and continues to be well known for his highly energetic stage performance. Having several major corporate endorsements under his belt has helped keep Wyre on his fans’ forefront. Safaricom Limited is one of Kenya’s leading mobile communications service providers & Wyre was one of the company’s Brand Ambassadors during the Safaricom Kenya Live Tour. He was also the Brand Ambassador for SAMSUNG in Kenya for 3 years in a row.

Wyre started his own record label, Lovechild Records on which he publishes and releases his music from. 2015 saw Wyre release his latest album LION .In the album he has worked closely with a diverse set of artists like Cecile, Skales, Jemere Morgan , Khaligraph, Illestr8 & Lectronica Circle. He is still currently promoting the album through live performance tours.

Wyre’s music career has seen him travel extensively and perform worldwide in countries like USA,UK, UAE, Jamaica, Nigeria, South Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Australia, Malaysia, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands & Switzerland. He has since released a couple of chart topping singles that have kept him relevant.

His other venture is his own clothing line called LION WEAR which incorporates a lot of Wyre’s, thoughts and expressions in an artistic format on clothing. With all the experience and more to come, Wyre promises to leave an imprint on all who listen to his music. “I will continue to manifest my thoughts and experiences on subjects that are close to all our hearts, love, life and society”. Wyre’s debut album, ‘Definition of a Love Child’ was released in 2006 and is solos that continue to top charts are ‘Usuhuba’,’Sikiza’, ‘Definations’, ‘Chuki’ and ‘Make a choice’.

Other notable collaborations that he has done have been with Jamaica’s Alaine, Cecile, and Morgan Heritage. He is reputed for his consistence and relevance in the music industry having maintained an industry presence actively since the late 90s.

Wyre has also worked as a producer at Tedd Josiah’s Blu Zebra Studios back in 2002 – 2004 and established his own record label Love Child Records on January 2012 where he has signed among others, Verbal, another Kenyan dance hall artist .

He did his internship at Audio Vault after studying mass communication and later got a full-time job as a producer.

For his primary education, he attended Thika Road Christian School and later joined Dagoretti High School for secondary education. He later enrolled at the Institute of Communication studies and Development to pursue Mass Communication/Media Studies.

Kevin got married to Hanifa Wyre in 2008 and together they have been blessed with adorable children.
