Rhumba legend Kasongo Wa Kanema who was the lead vocalist for Orchestra Super Mazembe is dead.
The Veteran Nairobi-based Congolese musician was part of an elite group of Congolese musicians who relocated to Kenya in the early 1970s.
The former leader of the legendary group Super Mazembe collapsed and died at his Lang’ata home in Nairobi Tuesday evening barely days after the death of Kenyan musician Aziz Abdi, who died last weekend in Voi on a Saturday evening.
Kasongo, who was in his mid-60s, was recuperating from a mild stroke he suffered from a few years ago.
Kasongo will be best remembered for his lead vocals in the evergreen Kakolele Viva Christmas song and not forgetting his philanthropic work through his Watoto Foundation, which strived to enhance the quality of lives of young disadvantaged children through music and free feeding program.
